Beginning therapy can feel like a big step. My aim is to make the process as clear and straightforward as possible. Below you’ll find information about session fees and how appointments work and what you can expect.
Fees
Individual counselling (60 minutes)
$175 per session
Payment is by direct debit before your appointment
Free 15-minute introductory call
If you would like to ‘meet’ me and confirm we are a good fit, I offer a free 15-minute phone or Zoom conversation. This gives us an opportunity to discuss what you’re looking for, ask questions, decide whether working together feels right and confirm the best session time. If you decide to proceed, I email you a link to the client portal where you can review the new client form.
What happens in the first session?
Our first session is an opportunity to understand what has brought you to therapy and what you hope will be different. We’ll discuss your history, current concerns and goals and begin to develop a shared understanding of how we might work together. We will also discuss any questions you have about therapy and the client portal.
Appointments
Finding a regular day, time and frequency that works for you provides a consistent experience that can help us work together, whether that is in-person or on Zoom. If your availability changes, we’ll review this together wherever possible.
Ongoing therapy
I often suggest making a commitment to six weekly sessions before reviewing how it is going. This provides enough time to establish a therapeutic relationship and begin working with your initial goal. We regularly review our work together and adapt the pace according to your needs. I will be honest about my sense of where we are at and what we are working on together.
Magenta Place, Leichhardt
Face-to-face appointments are available at Magenta Place in Leichhardt. The practice is easily accessible by public transport and there is free two-hour parking nearby. The consulting room is quiet, comfortable and filled with natural light (and plants).
Telehealth
If attending in-person isn’t practical, I also offer secure Zoom appointments to clients anywhere in Australia.
Cancellation policy
If you need to cancel or re-schedule an appointment, 48-hours’ notice is appreciated.
Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice are charged at the full fee unless exceptional circumstances apply.
Referrals, Medicare and private health insurance
Do I need a referral?
No. You are welcome to contact me directly to arrange an appointment. A GP referral is not required.
Can I claim a Medicare rebate?
No. Counselling with a registered counsellor is not eligible for Medicare rebates.
Can I claim through my private health fund?
Depending on your level of extras cover, some private health insurers provide rebates for counselling. I recommend checking directly with your health fund to confirm your eligibility. I am working through PACFA’s advice to register as a provider with private health funds, where possible.
Taking the next step
Beginning therapy often starts with a conversation (as well as courage and the hope that things can be better). If you’d like to see whether we’re a good fit, for yourself or someone you care about, I’d be very happy to hear from you.
